I do not like new year’s resolutions as they do not amount to anything.
However, I decided to eliminate plastic as much as possible from my life from now on. (Let’s say now is the 30th of March 2020, as it is a Holly day in my religion 🤷)
I was making plans for the mechanisms of the objects from my new project and was thinking I have to laser cut the pieces. The boxes I ordered for Community lights were made of plexiglass. Well, that project was supposed to be about being mindful to what we do because we influence each other and the environment without even knowing it. 🙄🤷
I guess the plexiglass was a poor choice, not to be repeated.
However, the go to replacement is wood and that burns easier. I do not worry that the circuits of the lamps or objects would cause a fire as they run at 5 or 12 volts and anyway the lamps shades are made of rope… And ofc the circuits are 👌😁
So, it’s settled. Wood it is. Although I would like to work with some kind of metal. New issues. Not as fun as designing mechanisms…
So, yeah, fuck climate change and collective ignorance.
Make that twice, since I just realized the circuit boards are also made of plexiglass. I wonder what other options are there… 🧐😕
I guess, since I decided to be more mindful about my feelings, reducing plastic consumption is an useful and easier exercise.
Looking around me, it seems like something futile at the moment and I doubt I will succeed in doing anymore than just not adding plastic parts to my new works. As little as that might be, it’s something and it’s a start. 🤷
I also decided to replace beer with vodka… though that doesn’t sound as an equally good idea… 😆
